Failing To Wait

I saw her from afar, the girl I needed now My heart was in my throat, but my words would not allow To me, her beauty bested the finest of the fine I knew I would not be rested, until I made her mine. I watched her on the corner, I watched her down the street I watched her while in hiding, I kept myself discreet Rarely, only rarely did she feign to look my way And then, I knew I lost her, it was that very day. I left before she saw me, I didn’t hesitate That moment not repeated, I was failing to wait. Had I stayed longer, I know she’d come to me But I didn’t linger, our love was not to be. The next day, me in hiding, again to see her there If we couldn’t be together, it would be my own despair I never made advancement, I couldn’t tempt the fate My problem, again my destiny, was again, failing to wait. For if I made my presence known The future would be certain But myself I had not shown I stayed behind the curtain And then the day came, she was gone She left and never returned I never knew why she had flown A love for me was now spurned. Failing to wait, was my downfall, I never got to meet her My shy attempts to gain her sight was totally beneath her I tried, I failed, but never found the love I had been seeking I failed to wait, I should have stayed instead of self-critiquing.
