6. Everybody Thinks They're Going to Heaven

by Larry Tagg and Lyle Workman

Another song from the sessions with Lyle Workman. He wrote the music, I wrote the lyrics. He flew his freak flag on the recording of it, all the guitar effects are from his frenzied brain; it's probably the most disturbing song ever written with "heaven" in the title. Yes, it's autobiographical. It's about giving people the benefit of the doubt, no matter how they may have hurt you.

I remember his face was so peaceful
We walked by and spoke to him one by one
He wore a smile that told me
That the best part was about to come
No one was grieving, no one cried--we all knew him too well
But let the angels throw petals down
On his way to lay him down
Everybody thinks they're going to heaven
I remember the table in the restaurant
Your cruel goodbye and fade to black
I still don't know why you can't trust anyone
But I'm learning about things like that
Someone gave you the pain you gave to me--now I'm beginning to see
Let the angels throw petals down
On your way to lay you down
Everybody thinks they're going to heaven
When I die it's all right if no one cries--you all know me too well
But let the angels throw petals down
On my way to lay me down
Everybody thinks they're going to heaven
Larry -- lead vocal and bass
Lyle Workman -- harmony vocal and guitars
Michael Urbano -- drums
