8. WE GO WAY BACK

By Larry Tagg and Candy Parton

I have never met my co-writer on this song. I performed a few of my songs at an ASCAP songwriter's showcase in Los Angeles, and she was in the audience. Afterward she approached a mutual friend and suggested that she and I try to write a song. She sent me three small stanzas of lyrics, and I wrote the song on my 4-track tape recorder at home. This is the original.

There's a cave in France near Lascaux
There's a painting on the wall of a buffalo
And I've got a heart that keeps perfect time
So I don't need to check it when you come to mind
No I don't need to check it when you come to mind
	'Cause we go way back
	Farther than the stars
	Our love made the shape
	Of the first lovers' hearts
	We go way back
	Every time I find
	We go way back
	Way back in time
Men in their armor will go off to war
Some will return and some are no more
I'd rather have peace
In my love for you
But if I had to fight I'd do that, too
If I had to fight
I'd fight for you . . .
And I've got a heart keeping time
Yes, I've got a heart keeping perfect time
So I don't need to check it when you come to mind
		No I don't need to check it . . .
